Wangzha Shangzun Truly Transcends the Ordinary

In the afternoon of March 6, 2019, peals of thunder could be heard rumbling above the sky of the Holy Miracles Temple, sounding like giant earthquakes and landslides. The rain came pouring down rapidly. The Grand Hall of Shakyamuni Buddha at the Holy Miracles Temple was crowded with nearly a thousand Buddhists from all over the world. Holding khatas with both hands, they kneeled to respectfully and sincerely welcome the greatly accomplished holy guru, Wangzha Shangzun.

Wangzha Shangzun is a great holy guru who has attained the level of Gold Button Grade 3. In this lifetime, He has followed H.H. Dorje Chang Buddha III to learn Buddha-Dharma and has attained tremendous accomplishment in holy realization. The Shangzun is considered the one and only Venerable King of Extraordinary Strength within the field of Buddhism throughout the entire world. He once conducted the Vajra Fa-man Holy Selection Grand Dharma Assembly during which He performed the Determination by Holy Selection in accordance with the Dharma and arrived at the determination that H.H. Dorje Chang Buddha III is the true incarnation of the primordial Buddha.

In 2016, Wangzha Shangzun personally presided over the holy exam held by the World Buddhism Association Headquarters for Dharma kings, rinpoches, Dharma masters, masters, and acaryas around the world. In establishing the Samsara Eight-Wind Array and Vajra Array, and with his holy realization, the Shangzun determined through Holy Selection the grade levels—the levels of accomplishment—of nearly 10,000 Buddhists. That astounded the world!

The Shangzun is, however, indifferent towards fame and fortune. In the past few years, He devoted himself to Dharma affairs of saving living beings. He rarely sees regular Buddhists except for seeing a very small number of high-level Buddhists. With the near-completion of the Dipankara Buddha Hall in the Holy Miracles Temple, and upon repeated requests by the monastics of the temple, the Shangzun has finally agreed to go to the Dipankara Buddha Hall periodically to chant sutras and mantras, to perform Dharmas, to pray for and bless faithful Buddhists who light lamps to beseech blessings. It was only under this karmic condition that the Shangzun agreed to publicly meet with Buddhists regardless of their level of accomplishment.

In the evening of March 6, Wangzha Shangzun arrived at Holy Miracles Temple. He walked with firm and stately pace as if a Vajra deity was descending to a mandala. A huge Vajra scepter which weighs about 1,000 jin (approximately 1,100 pounds) was placed in front of the entrance of the Grand Hall of Shakyamuni Buddha. According to the ancient Dharma rules in the time of Guru Padmasambhava, any great holy guru who attained the level of Gold Button Grade 3 must lift the temple-barrier Vajra scepter—the weight of which corresponds with the body weight and age of the holy guru—before they can stride over the scepter and enter the Buddha Hall. This Dharma rule is meant to verify if the Shangzun’s physical condition is healthy and if He has attained the standard of having transcended the ordinary. The rule requires Wangzha Shangzun to lift a 1,000 jin temple-barrier Vajra scepter before He can enter the Grand Hall to pay homage to H.H. Dorje Chang Buddha III.

Wangzha Shangzun has a Vajra-like physique that is tall and grand, and an appearance that is very dignified. He went up to the temple-barrier Vajra scepter, bent over, and lifted up the 1,000 jin Vajra scepter effortlessly, manifesting the mighty character of a Vajra deity. When He put the Vajra scepter back on the floor, the ground and the hall instantly shook and the congregation was astounded. Subsequently, Shangzun gracefully strode over the Vajra scepter and entered the Grand Hall. He prostrated to His Holiness Dorje Chang Buddha IIIas he spoke these words with utter sincerity, “I, disciple Wangzha, prostrate myself before the great Namo Dorje Chang Buddha III!” With his back bent and head bowed, He slowly came in front of His Holiness the Buddha. His Holiness the Buddha placed His hand on the Shangzun’s head. Afterwards, the Shangzun retreated to the side and ascended to His seat. He addressed the congregation, “Buddhist disciples, I’m very happy to see you here today. I’m happy because you have the karmic affinity in this lifetime to meet Namo Dorje Chang Buddha III. Thus, you’ll be able to learn the authentic Buddha Dharma, the unaltered and pristine Dharma. Because of this, you will be able to attain accomplishment within this lifetime. So of course, I’m very happy.”

Wangzha Shangzun blessed everyone in the congregation by placing His hand on each of their heads before He left. This went on until very late at night.

After the Shangzun left, Buddhist disciples were unable to hold back their curiosity about the 1,000 jin Vajra scepter. Many came forward to try lifting it. A body-builder and weight-lifter also gave it a try. Certainly, it is obvious that no matter how much strength they exerted, they were unable to lift it, and everyone shook their head when they resume standing. They were not even able to move it, not to say lift it. Two people tried to jointly lift one end, but the Vajra scepter did not move a bit. No wonder Shangzun is called the Venerable King of Extraordinary Strength.

Kankun Rinpoche, the attendant of Wangzha Shangzun, said, “On this planet earth, among all Dharma kings and rinpoches, you cannot find anyone who can lift the temple-barrier Vajra scepter. There are no temple-barrier Vajra scepters in front of their Grand Buddha Halls because this is a sharp weapon that exposes the nature of ordinary people. If they are not truly great holy people, do they dare to place a temple-barrier Vajra scepter in front of their Buddha Halls? Why? The reason is simple. True Buddha-Dharma has already become extinct. What people have learned are fragmented empty theories. No matter how reputable some of the Dharma kings or rinpoches are, or how high their status may be, their physical bodies are essentially sickly and weak. How can they have any holy qualities in their bodies? How could they have a Vajra body developed from true Buddha-Dharma? The only place to witness true realization power is right here where Namo Dorje Chang Buddha III is. Only Wangzha Shangzun, a close disciple of H.H. Dorje Chang Buddha III, has truly attained realization powers manifested from the authentic Dharma of the Tathagatas. I dare say some of those Tibetan Dharma Kings who brag about their lineages and talk empty theories are very pitiful. They do all sorts of useless things to fool amateurs. Even though they pose to look energetic when ascending to the Dharma dais, their bodies are weak and sickly. They are tormented by their illnesses yet they continue to make up empty lies, and even fabricate false Buddha-Dharma. Since cultivators do not look for facts and only listen to empty talk, it is not surprising that they are being swindled! This is precisely the Dharma-ending age that Shakyamuni Buddha talked about where the demons prevail, Buddha-Dharma declines, and practitioners are often harmed. To cover up the fact that they are by nature ordinary people, some Dharma kings or rinpoches might say, ‘Our lineage places no emphasis on that!’ I am saying you can only deceive idiots. Whether or not you place emphasis on that, if you claim that you are a holy person and you have transcended the ordinary to become holy, why doesn’t your body have the great strength of a holy person? The undeniable facts are that you have no physical strength and your physical body is weak and sickly. Isn’t that true? If you disagree, show everyone that you can pick up the temple-barrier Vajra scepter! Just as with the Five Vidyas. Many people pretend to have Five Vidyas, but ultimately, where are their Five Vidyas? Can they show their Vidyas one by one? What level of accomplishment do they have in their Vidyas? They have nothing! Shakyamuni Buddha stipulated that a Bodhisattva must have Five Vidyas, yet you are deficient in the Five Vidyas, and without any level of accomplishment. You are clearly not a great Bodhisattva. By claiming to be a Bodhisattva, you are going against the teachings of Shakyamuni Buddha. You are simply an ordinary person and not a Bodhisattva at all!”

Master Wan Ko Yee — H.H. Dorje Chang Buddha III

On April 3, 2008, a solemn and dignified first-publishing ceremony of a fact-recording book entitled H.H. Dorje Chang Buddha III, which published jointly by the World Buddhism Publishing LLC and the World Dharma Voice, Inc., was held at the Library of the Congress of the United States. The book was also formally accepted into the collection of the Library of the Congress of the United States. Only since that time, did people in the world know that Master Wan Ko Yee, who had been broadly respected by the great masses and who had also been known as Great Dharma King Yangwo Yeshe Norbu, had been recognized by the world’s leaders, regent dharma kings, and great rinpoches of Buddhism through official documents as the third incarnation of Dorje Chang Buddha, who is the primordial Sambhogakaya Buddha of the universe. The Buddha’s name is H.H. Dorje Chang Buddha III. Since then, people began to address His Holiness the Buddha by “Namo[1] Dorje Chang Buddha III.” This is similar to the situation that Sakyamuni Buddha’s name was Prince Siddhartha Gotama before attaining Buddhahood. However, after Sakyamuni Buddha had attained Buddhahood, His title changed to “Namo Sakyamuni Buddha.” That is why we now address His Holiness the Buddha as “H.H. Dorje Chang Buddha III.”

In particular, on December 12, 2012, the Senate Resolution No. 614 of the United States Congress officially used “His Holiness” in the name addressing Dorje Chang Buddha III (That is to say, “H.H. Dorje Chang Buddha III.”) Since then, the title and status of H.H. Dorje Chang Buddha III has been definitive by nature. And, as a matter of fact, “Dorje Chang Buddha III” is a name used legally in governmental and official legislative documents. Therefore, the previously used respected name and titles such as “Wan Ko Yee,” Great Master, and Great Dharma King no longer exist.
However, the news below was published before the Buddha’s title of H.H. Dorje Chang Buddha III was publicly announced. At that time, people did not know about the true status of His Holiness the Buddha. Therefore, to respect the true history, we still kept the names used before the title of H.H. Dorje Chang Buddha III was legitimately determined in republishing this news. However, all must clearly know that the only legitimate name of His Holiness the Buddha is H.H. Dorje Chang Buddha III and all other names used before the legitimate determination no longer exist.

Painting commands price that shocked the world. Master Wan Ko Yee’s (H.H. Dorje Chang Buddha III) painting titled “Majesty”, which an art collector purchased through a competitive bid of NT$59,000,000 (roughly US$1,960,000).

I was a factory worker in the past. In 1993, a co-worker had to go home to help plant his family’s wheat crop. His leave request was not approved by the shift leader. So, I went to cover him.

When looking at his work in the past, I thought I should be able to do it. In reality, it was not that simple. I was not skillful in operating the machine. The machine pulled my right hand in. When I dragged the arm out, I had no flesh in my hand and arm, only a long, bare bone left.

The doctor at the hospital took a look and told me that I must have amputation. The upper arm bone was fractured; however, he could reconnect it back.

When I slowly woke up from the surgery, I saw that my entire right arm…, my right arm was like, so short , only 5, 6 cm long.

Actually, the doctor had told me very clearly before the surgery that the amputation would only be limited to my hand. This is just not fair at all. I was furious. How could he be a doctor? What medical ethics did he have?

I cried my heart out at that time.  I got very upset. I did not even want to go out of my room. I got a room from the company. I didn’t go out at all and felt that it would be embarrassed to go out and see people. Why do I get such bad luck?

I was depressed all day long and also could not get along with my wife. I would smash bowls or chopsticks whenever things didn’t go my way. That happened a lot. When I popped open a bottle of white wine, I would have a big, long gulp.  In one morning, I could almost finish a bottle with only a few drops left.  I buried myself in the alcohol at home.  Once I am drunk, I lose my temper. I almost had a mental breakdown and lost confidence in my life.

It started out from doing a favor, to help out my co-worker. How did it make me to become a handicapped person?  How could such a thing happen to me? Even the hospital mistreated me in that way. The whole society did not treat me fairly. I also didn’t see justice from the Heavenly God…….

One day, my daughter told me: “Father, I will take you to a Buddhist center. Go learn Buddhism. Buddhism will be good for you, and for our family. Chant “Namo H.H. Dorje Chang Buddha III!”

100,000 Prostrations by a One-Armed Person who Learns and Practices the True Dharma of the Tathagata from H.H. Dorje Chang Buddha III.

“What did you tell me to chant?” I said, “I have only heard about Amitabha Buddha. Why didn’t I know about H.H. Dorje Chang Buddha III?”

Starting from that day, I would head to the Buddhist center and then listened to the Dharma discourses every day.

I started to learn Buddhism at the Buddhist center.  I listened to the discourse on the Law of Cause and Effect. I listened to many pre-recorded dharma discourses, such as The Dharma to Cut Off the Twenty Worldly Emotions, etc.

Eventually I understood that everything is a result of the Law of Cause and Effect.

I listened to The Dharma to Cut Off the Twenty Worldly Emotionsa few more times. I also listened more times to the discourse on the Law of Cause and Effect.

I gradually realized that the loss of my right arm was not without a cause. Whether in my past lifetimes or in this lifetime, I have harmed so many living beings. This bit of suffering is what I deserve. When I took the lives of other living beings in the past, I caused them sufferings.

Through the learning, I slowly understood the truth about the Law of Cause and Effect. The hatred in my mind also gradually vanished.

Every day I did prostrations and listened to the dharma at the Buddhist center.  I then made a resolve.

Since I have learned and understood the truth of the Law of Cause and Effect, I will now repent to all the living beings I have killed or harmed. I will repent to them. With the utmost respect, in front of the Buddhas and Bodhisattvas, I will repent with my most pious heart.

I will do 100,000 prostrations for repentance. In less than four months, I completed 100,000 prostrations. H.H. Dorje Chang Buddha III told us, only cultivation can transform the Law of Cause and Effect.

The retribution I am receiving right now is caused by what I have done in many lifetimes and eons ago. From now on, I will follow and learn from H.H. Dorje Chang Buddha III and cultivate myself.

As long as I plant good causes. I will definitely get good fruition in the future. I am determined to follow and learn from the Buddha and cultivate myself until I attain accomplishment.

INTRODUCTION TO H.H. DORJE CHANG BUDDHA III (2)

Let us put aside for the moment those thirty main categories of accomplishments. There is another matter that proves H.H. Dorje Chang Buddha III (Previously known as Master Wan Ko Yee) is the greatest holy being. On many occasions between 1995 and 2000 when H.H. Dorje Chang Buddha III was expounding the dharma, His Holiness openly declared, If anyone asks a question about anything in the universe that I cannot answer or that I answer incorrectly, then I am not qualified to expound the Buddha-dharma to living beings. I will give everyone five years to ask any questions. This five-year vow is a manifestation of dharma. After the five-year vow period has passed, I will not carry out this vow any longer. H.H. Dorje Chang Buddha III openly made such a vow on many occasions, which were recorded on tape.

That five-year period has long since passed. Numerous people posed a variety of questions. Whether the question was about Buddha-dharma or worldly matters, the questioner received a satisfactory and accurate answer. Not one question baffled H.H. Dorje Chang Buddha III. In the recordings of dharma discourses given by H.H. Dorje Chang Buddha III, we can often hear this open declaration of the Holiest Tathagata as well as questions posed and answers given. His Holiness not only answered questions posed by Asians, His Holiness also answered questions after questions posed by westerners. One example of this occurred in St. Louis, Missouri. After the chairman of the American League of Colleges and Universities heard the impromptu answers of H.H. Dorje Chang Buddha III to questions posed by college and university deans, presidents, professors, and doctorate degree holders, he was so moved he slapped himself on each cheek in front of those dozen or so people. He then excitedly stated that he has lived in vain for all of these years and that the answers he heard H.H. Dorje Chang Buddha III give had deeply benefited him.

The universe is boundlessly vast, with no beginning, ending, or limits. What type of person would dare say, There is no question in the universe that I cannot answer? Furthermore, His Holiness openly vowed that He would give both holy and ordinary people five years to pose any questions. What type of person has such high realization and accomplishment? How could a human being have such omniscience? Yet, this is not a fabrication. The facts irrefutably prove that the realization of His Holiness, at that time called Master Wan Ko Yee, is such that there is nothing His Holiness does not understand! Is such a person an ordinary holy being? Such a person is absolutely not merely an ordinary Bodhisattva. This was a mystery for a long time.

Who, after all, is this being of holy virtue? Is His Holiness from heaven or from a Buddha-land? H.H. Dorje Chang Buddha III (Previously known as Master Wan Ko Yee) always responds to such questions by saying He is an ordinary person. Moreover, His Holiness has never divulged to anyone which holy being He was in any previous life. His Holiness often speaks of clearly believing in cause and effect and often expounds the tathata. His Holiness has said that He is everyones servant and that He is an ordinary cultivator. But we can see from the real accomplishments that no one in this world can be found who can attain even half of the accomplishments that H.H. Dorje Chang Buddha III has laid out before our eyes! If anyone doubts this, then there is a very simple solution. We welcome anyone to come forward and break this record of His Holiness. If anyone can attain the accomplishments of His Holiness in only fifteen main categories, then we believe such a person is also a Buddha who has come to the world. Everyone knows that the abilities of an average person cannot surpass those of a holy being, such as an eminent monastic, great rinpoche, or highly virtuous person. Could it be that one who is fully proficient in exoteric and esoteric Buddhism, who has deeply mastered the Five Vidyas, and who possesses great wisdom belongs in the category of an ordinary, average cultivator? Conversely, could it be that one who is not proficient in exoteric and esoteric Buddhism, who has not mastered all Five Vidyas or who does not understand even one vidya, and whose wisdom is low is a Buddha or Bodhisattva? Could it be that the Buddha-dharma of the Buddha characterizes those who are enlightened as stupid and those who are unenlightened and ordinary as the wisest? The truth of the Buddhas teachings is that the higher ones state of realization and virtue is, the higher ones manifestations of wisdom are. Buddhas are called Buddhas because their wisdom is so high that they reached a level of enlightenment in which there is nothing they cannot do. This is a matter that even we ordinary people can understand. Could it be that holy beings would need to ponder such a matter? It would be ridiculous if any holy being needed to ponder such a matter. How could such a person be called a holy being?

The Wondrous Multicolored Sculptures of H.H. Dorje Chang Buddha III are holy objects that cannot be duplicated by any other person in the world. But think about something. Is Sakyamuni Buddha able to create such sculptures? There is nothing the Buddha cannot do. Of course, that would be a very small matter for the Buddha. Could Kuan Yin Bodhisattva or Manjushri Bodhisattva create such sculptures? Of course, for them it would also be nothing difficult. You cannot deny the wisdom of the Buddha and great mahasattvas by saying that they could not accomplish such a small task. If someone lacks even that small amount of realization, can such a person be said to be the incarnation of the Buddha, Kuan Yin, Manjushri, or Samantabhadra Mahasattva? Could we possibly contend that the Buddha and great Bodhisattvas cannot create such sculptures? Conversely, surely we cannot say that the realization and wisdom of those who can create such sculptures are low, yet the realization and wisdom of those who cannot create such sculptures are high. Let us use the example of a boulder. We certainly cannot say that those who can lift a boulder have little physical strength, while those who cannot lift it have great physical strength. It is the same line of reasoning.

Although this is the line of reasoning, who descended into this world and incarnated as H.H. Master Wan Ko Yee after all? How is it that there is no question His Holiness is unable to answer? How is it that there is nothing His Holiness does not understand? How is it that His Holiness has so many first-rate accomplishments? How is it that no other person can duplicate some of the things that His Holiness has created? The answer to such questions truly seemed to be a mystery that would never be solved.

With the slow passage of time, these questions still could not be answered. Then, holy monks and dharma kings whose level of accomplishment is of the highest order in the world read the book A Treasury of True Buddha-Dharma. This caused a great sensation and they passed around the book to other holy monks and dharma kings of the highest order to read. These people of great and holy virtue, who are incarnations of Buddhas and Bodhisattvas, entered a profound state of supernatural vision through either meditation or practice of the dharma. They then announced the background of H.H. Wan Ko Yeshe Norbu, who was long ago recognized by H.H. Great Dharma King Zunsheng (the manifestation of Mahavairocana Buddha) as Buddha Vajrdhara. Through strict practice of the dharma and meditation these holy monastics deeply entered the dharma realm and supernaturally saw the true source.

The result was they learned that this being of great virtue and holiness is the second incarnation of Vimalakirti and the third incarnation of Dorje Chang Buddha. They wrote down their certificates of recognition according to the rules of Buddhism in which they recognized that H.H. Master Wan Ko Yee is H.H. Dorje Chang Buddha IIIXthe highest ancient Buddha in exoteric, esoteric, Mahayana, Hinayana, and Vajrayana Buddhism; the master of the Five Buddhas in the five directions; and the master of the great mahasattva Vajrasattva. That is, they recognized that H.H. Master Wan Ko Yee is the Holiest Tathagata Wan Ko Yeshe Norbu, the current greatest leader of Buddhism in the entire dharma realm! Because H.H. Dorje Chang Buddha III Wan Ko Yeshe Norbu Holiest Tathagata is the complete, perfect, true, and direct incarnation of the body, speech, and mind of Dorje Chang Buddha, His Holiness is different from the hundreds of millions of other Buddhas and Bodhisattvas who have incarnated into this world. That is because those Buddhas and Bodhisattvas were only a partial nirmanakaya of a certain Buddha or Bodhisattva. Thus, they had only part of the body, speech, or mind powers of that certain Buddha or Bodhisattva. That is why no other person of holy virtue in todays world can manifest such complete proficiency in exoteric and esoteric Buddhism and such perfect mastery of the Five Vidyas.
